The Government of the country has approved a number of amendments to the laws on immigration and citizenship.
The amendments, designed to introduce stricter conditions for international protection, combat circumvention of immigration rules, accelerate the expulsion of persons who have not received asylum, reduce the admission allowance and introduce stricter citizenship requirements, will be implemented in stages.
The government has also submitted its proposal for a so-called border procedure that can be applied to "probably unjustified" asylum seekers filed at or near the EU's external borders. Applicants who have entered the procedure will be denied the right to move freely around the country during the examination, and, in fact, they will be required to remain in the premises of the reception center to which they were assigned.
The period of permanent residence in Finland for obtaining citizenship will be increased from 5 to 7 years.
There will be no benefits for asylum seekers, and obtaining a residence permit will be the beginning of the countdown for 8 years. You can be absent from the country during this period for no more than 1 year in total.
The validity period of the residence permit upon approval of the application for asylum will be reduced from 4 to 3 years, and in the case of a serious crime it will be canceled.
They will be able to cancel their residency even if incorrect information is revealed: illegal employment or a fictitious marriage.
