China extends tax breaks for foreigners

29.08.2023 The Ministry of Finance and the State Administration of Taxation of China issued Joint Announcement No. 29 of 2023, announcing the extension of income tax benefits for foreign individuals.

Previously extended until December 31, 2023, the preferential policy provides that foreign individuals qualifying as residents may elect to apply special additional deductions for children's education, adult education, medical expenses, mortgage interest, or take advantage of the preferential tax exemption policy for subsidies (benefits in kind) such as subsidies for housing, language training and children's tuition fees. The choice made by the foreign individual cannot be changed during the tax year. Announcement No. 29 of 2023 extends the option until December 31, 2027.
