Since July 1 the banknotes of Belarus will be renewed: «four zeros» will be removed

July 1 revaluation in proportion 10000:1 will be held in Belarus. Thus the currency of Belarus will lose four zeros: 10 000 «old» Belarusian rubles will equal to one «new» ruble. In that vein new banknotes and coins will be introduced. In compliance with this proportion it may be affirmed that today the lowest face value of a banknote – 100 rubles - will be replaced by one kopiyka – the lowest face value according to the new system.

Since July 1 seven face values of banknotes and eight face values of coins will be issued. Each banknote is dedicated to a region in Belarus. One of them is dedicated to Minsk.

Only in November 2015 the National Bank of Belarus announced that «the decision about the Belarusian ruble revaluation was made in order to improve currency circulation, accounting and calculation simplification, to support optimized currency structure of money stock, significant cuts in public expenditure for currency circulation in the Republic of Belarus».

«The process of revaluation is of technical nature and will not influence the purchasing capacity of the Belarusian ruble, national currency rate of exchange in relation to foreign currencies, as well as basically established inflation rate».

The banknotes which are being adopted were produced by order of the National Bank as early as in 2008. However then the revaluation holding was supposed to be impossible, and currency notes were put in Central Storage Facility of the National Bank.

After the revaluation the basic unit will be 21 ruble, though at the present time it constitutes 210 thousand rubles.
