Hong Kong still at the first position

				11.12.2012

Up to now Hong Kong has a leading position among the cities of China, but analysts predict that Shanghai may soon catch up with him in many ways.

In China, there is China Institute of City Competitiveness - CICC, which publishes an annual report on the competitiveness of Chinese cities in the market. CICC is an independent organization that was founded in 1998 in Hong Kong. Analysts at the Institute since 2002 lead-up to the study of the competitive position of a city of China, and produce their annual reports. Ratings, which are assigned by Institute to 289 cities of China, based on a wide range of indicators, including: economics, competition, internationalization, the overall climate and growth potential.

In the latest estimates of CICC Hong Kong led the list of cities for the last 11 years, but not far from it - in second place – Shanghai locates. The third and fourth place is occupied by Beijing and Guangzhou respectively. Analysts noted that Shanghai every year reduces the separation from Hong Kong and has a good chance in the near future; it may not take the place of the "giants", but to catch up with him in many ways.

Expert’s opinion

"Shanghai is industrial capital of China.

Hong Kong is China's center of commerce with the world.

Even if you compare the cities in terms of "competitiveness", all the same functions of these cities are different and are unlikely to ever be duplicated each other.

And the increase in ratings of the city to the level of China Hong Kong (until recently the British colony) is a clearly positive and encouraging fact.

Hong Kong companies will have something to trade on the world market. "
