The United Nations Tax Committee has published an update on the process for amending the UN Model Tax Convention regarding the digital economy.
At its 21st meeting in October 2020, the UN Tax Committee voted to include a new article in the UN Model Tax Convention. There is now a possibility to establish a treaty-based tax regime for source jurisdictions of payment for automated digital services.
A one-day meeting is planned in the near future, during which some refinements will be made. It is expected that the final proposal will be presented at the 22nd session of the Tax Committee, which is scheduled to be held in a virtual format and is expected to take place from April 19 to 28, 2021. The text of the proposal will be posted directly on the UN Committee on Taxes website closer to the date of the 22nd session.
