Eurostat conducted an analysis and made conclusions about obtaining EU citizenship in 2022.
In 2022, 989,000 people living in the EU received citizenship, which is about 20% more than in 2021.
The three countries that have issued the largest number of European passports include Italy, Spain and Germany.
As for non-residents of European countries, in 2022, the largest number of people received citizenship of Italy (92 thousand people), Spain (37 thousand people) and Germany (36 thousand people). On the contrary, a decrease in the issuance of citizenship was noted in France, the Netherlands and Portugal.
According to the data, 87% of citizens who received EU citizenship were residents of third countries.
