Emirates ID extension in one step

15.09.2025 Citizens can now renew or replace their identity cards in one step, with the validity period automatically set based on age, turning them into a one-step process as part of the second cycle of the Zero Bureaucracy program in the UAE.

The Federal Office for Identification, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has launched a simplified system for replacing and renewing identity cards in the UAE, allowing citizens to complete the entire procedure in one go, rather than in several stages.

Under the new system, the validity period of updated identity cards will be automatically determined based on the age of the applicant, similar to the approach used for passport services. Citizens aged 21 and over will receive identity cards with a validity period of 10 years, and persons under the age of 21 will receive identity cards with a validity period of 5 years.
