Accelerated citizenship in Germany is cancelled

				17.04.2025
						The new German government plans to abolish the accelerated citizenship scheme, which allowed specially integrated migrants to obtain a German passport after only 3 years of residence in the country.
The only exception will be the spouses of German citizens – they will retain the right to 3-year naturalization, subject to a two-year marriage.

Other changes to the law will remain in force.:

- the standard naturalization period is 5 years with language proficiency at the B1 level .;
- dual citizenship permit for non-EU citizens.
