Synthesized Tax Convention with Great Britain Has Been Published

The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation has published a synthesized version of the double taxation convention with the United Kingdom on its website. The changes to the convention were made taking into account the provisions of the Multilateral Convention on the Implementation of Measures Relating to Tax Treaties to Prevent the Dilution of the Tax Base and the Withholding of Profits from Taxation (MLI).

The new document has been prepared on the basis of the relevant reservations and notifications submitted to the Depositary by Russia and the United Kingdom. As indicated in the synthesized text, the Multilateral Convention will apply to the Double Taxation Convention:

- in Russia and the United Kingdom with respect to withholding tax as of January 1, 2021;

- in Russia for other taxes for tax periods beginning from January 1, 2021 and onward;

- in the United Kingdom from 1 April 2021 for corporate income tax and from 6 April 2021 for corporation tax and capital gains tax.
