The Bill of the Cayman Islands on Information Disclosure

The Legislative Assembly of the Cayman Islands received a Bill repealing the law on confidential relations.

The Bill on the disclosure of confidential information, recalls the circumstances in which a person may disclose the information without the expressed consent of the person in respect to whom the rule of confidentiality is applicable.

The Bill also explains how local authorities can disclose information and under what circumstances.

The Bill cancels criminal sanctions established by the Law on the confidential relationships, which is currently in effect. Under this Act, a person who discloses, intentionally obtains or attempts to obtain confidential information, the rules on the distribution of which is regulated by this law, may be subject to a fine of 5,000 KYD, or imprisonment of two years.
