Description

Westpac Banking Corporation (Westpac) was established in 1817 and was the first bank established in Australia.

In 1982, with the acquisition of the Commercial Bank of Australia, the bank acquired its name Westpac Banking Corporation. On August 23, 2002, Westpac was incorporated as a public company under the Australian Companies Act 2001. In December 2008, Westpac merged with St.George Bank Limited.

Today, Westpac Group has a large number of branches throughout Australia, New Zealand, as well as in the Pacific region. As of 2010, Westpac Group employs 39,000 people in Australia, New Zealand, and around the world. The value of the bank's assets is $618 billion.
